The partially renovated stone house is situated in the village square of Asites, a small historical village with a population of 450 inhabitants,22kms from Heraklion. Outside the front door is an ancient walnut tree, a Venetian water fountain and a square with shade trees. The outside of the house is deceiving in size, but walk through the cobblestone archway and be amazed at the size of the house with a courtyard with pomegranate and orange trees, and a large wood oven. The ground floor has a large kitchen with open fireplace, a lounge room and 2 other large rooms opening onto the courtyard. The house has 4 fireplaces in total, 2 downstairs and 2 upstairs. Internal stairs lead to the 2nd floor with a large open plan room with wood floor. External steps lead to another room which has a small terrace. At the front entrance in the square are stone steps which lead up to a large room with an internal mezzanine floor, this was originally a coffee house in 1914. There is also an internal entrance to the room from downstairs. In the cobble stone archway entrance is a storeroom which was originally a stable and storage for wine and oil. The major part of the renovation has been completed ,the wood beam ceilings have been restored to the original condition and new electrical wiring and most of the plumbing except for the bathrooms has been completed. The village of Asites is surrounded by vineyards and olive groves and is beautifully preserved with flagstone lanes and many renovated stone houses. The location offers peaceful country living while being only 15 minutes from Heraklion city. The are some interesting Venetian sites and a European nature trail with a gorge and 2 caves in the area. The village has a folk museum in a restored stone house, showing daily life over 100 years ago.
